This one day Outdoor Training (with an online prerequisite) will
prepare you to take your kids camping outdoors overnight and qualify
you to be a “Troop Camper”. This training will take place at Camp Oak
Spring.
Many Girl Scouts tell us “camping trips” are one
of the best things about their Girl Scout experience. It’s true:
connecting with nature in a girl-led setting is a big benefit of
belonging to Girl Scouts. By taking your Outdoor Training, you are
helping to build the bridge between your girls and the outdoors- so
let’s get going!
By completing this training, you will be
considered a “Troop Camper”, which qualifies you to take Girl Scouts
on overnight camping trips outdoors. Previously referred to as Outdoor
103, this hands-on training will provide a variety of skills- from
fire building & outdoor cooking, learning about minimal impact
camping, and exploring best practices on how to effectively prepare
your girls prior to their outdoor adventure. At the completion of this
training, you will have the tools to create a girl-led environment
where your Girl Scouts can thrive as they grow, explore, and create
lasting memories in the outdoors.
This training
requires participation in an online prerequisite that will take
place in Google Classroom, followed by a full day of skill
building at one of GSCSNJ’s four camp properties. You will receive
directions on how to participate in your Google Classroom two weeks
prior to your Outdoor Training. This event will be held in any
weather, so please dress appropriately. Registration for each training
will close two weeks prior to the training, and the
prerequisite must be completed within 10 days of receiving your
Google Classroom link.
A minimum of 8 registrants is required for this training to run.
Girl Scouts who are 14 years or older may take this
course. Completion will qualify them to be an Assistant Troop Camper.
A Troop Camper over the age of 18 is still required to cover Safety
Activity Checkpoints ratios. Same prerequisites apply.
Location: Camp Oak Spring, Somerset NJ
