History of the Gold Award
The Golden Eagle of Merit, the highest award in Girl Scouting from 1916 to 1919, marked the beginning of a long tradition of using prestigious awards to recognize girls who make a difference in their communities and in their own lives.

From 1940 to 1963, the Curved Bar Award was the highest honor in Girl Scouting. From 1963 to 1980, First Class was the highest award. To achieve First Class meant that a girl was an "all-around" person with some skills in many fields and a proficiency in one.
Girl Scout Silver Award
The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest achievement in Cadette Girl Scouting. It is symbolic of a girl’s efforts in Girl Scouts and her community. The Girl Scout Silver Award encourages girls to use life skills such as leadership, public speaking, budgeting and goal setting as they work on their final project that helps to make the world a better place.

Girl Scout Bronze Award
The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn. It reflects the promise girls make to help others, improve their communities and world and become the best they can be. A girl can do the Girl Scout Bronze Award Service Project by herself or with others.

The Girl Scout Bronze Award was created in South Jersey by Lew Gorman a Camden County Leader. In 1999, GSUSA invited eight girls from Camden County to present the Bronze Award at the National Convention in Kansas City. As a result, the Bronze Award gained national recognition and GSUSA developed the Girl Scout Bronze Award as part of the Junior Girl Scouting program.
